We had headed over to Paeroa on the Saturday and got the pit spot setup, bike scrutineered and myself signed.
Tryed to get a decent nights sleep in The Little Red Van, but that didn't really work out to well. I reckon I got 2 hours sleep max! I rolled out of bed at about 6:45 and headed to Macca's for my B&E McMuffin combo and large latte, only to get one sip of the coffee before it fell off the pit table and spilled all over the ground!!!
F1 & F2 where first up with the practice's, I managed a 48:500 that put me 7 on the grid.
Race 1: I had another terrible start that saw me lose at least 5 places. I managed to claw my way back to 10 over all and 7 in F1. On the second lap going in turn 1 the throttle seemed to stick and kept driving me in to the turn. At first I thought it was a error on my part. Thought I hadn't released the throttle fully and so didn't think anything of it.
King of the Streets: I had managed to qualify in 9th for this. I had a slightly better start this time but still lost a couple of places. I spent alot of laps trying to pass John Houben safely. I managed to get him going into turn three. Again I had the throttle stick just before the corner before the hairpin, again I thought it was my fault and just carried on racing. Finished this one in 10th with a best lap time of 48:063. On the warm down lap I noticed the Fi light blinking away! Was thinking that I had maybe hit the limiter and that was what had caused it. I shut the bike off then turned it back on and the fault was gone!
Race 2: I got alot better start this time but was riding the bike and keeping an eye on the dash in case it threw another Fi fault. Sure enough going into the hair pin the throttle stuck again and right then I knew it was the reason for the Fi light, I looked down at the dash to see the red light blinking away. I decided the safest place to pull off was going to be the ese's by the post office. As I rounded turn 2 she gave a splutter and slowed to a crawl. I shot my hand in the air to let the others know I was slowing and had John Houben just miss me!
So not the end to the day I wanted but at least I didn't leave in the Ambo this year!!!
A huge thank you to Peter, Steve from Gigabyte Solutionz, Moto TT trackdays, Continental Tires, ProMoto, Chris Mitchell Motorcycles, Acacia Bay R&R, Stomp Grip, Alick Saunders Photography, Bike Rider Mag & last but certainly not the least the lovely Alexis for keeping the sun of me on the dummy grid!!!
See you at Hampton downs for the 4th round of the Nationals!
